ASSESSMENTS

All assessments will consider the child’s role as a learner and how foundation skills impact on  their  ability  to  access  learning  opportunities.

Therapists can adopt a bottom-up, a top-down or a mixed directional approach to clients’ assessment, it is important to be cognisant of both assessment approaches and the implications associated with each. Occupational therapists should decide which assessment direction is the most appropriate so as to ensure the provision of high quality, and client-centred service.

Yellow Vest

This means that the individual’s ability to carry out daily life tasks (occupational performance) is primarily considered. In children and young people, this includes their ability to actively engage in learning, personal care, play, and social activities, in order that they can function optimally at home, school and in the community as appropriate.

When  the cause  of  his  or  her  occupational dysfunctions not evident and needs to be clarified the individual’s performance components or skills may be assessed. Children  often  present  with  complex  and/or  overlapping  difficulties,  and  so  the  underlying  performance components (motor, sensory, perception and volition) are also assessed, to identify how these foundation skills interfere with occupational performance.

We’ll carry out assessments in the comfort of your own home, at your school or at one of our clinics. One of our experienced occupational therapists will use a combination of checklists and observations to gain a better insight into individual difficulties affecting life at school and home.
